Starting a new year

Another year, another class of Blueprints Leadership. This makes my heart happy. Welcome to the 2009-2010 class, a group filled with intelligent, capable leaders who are committed to a year-long journey of leadership!

Today, we head to downtown Detroit for an amazing tour with Inside Detroit and a chance to re-evaluate the way we think about making change. Does one need to have millions of dollars to make change? No. Does someone need to be as smart as Albert Einstein to make change? No. On this tour we'll see examples of ordinary people doing extraordinary work in OUR community.

This is probably one of my favorite days of the year as we get to see change in action! But for those of you who either aren't in Blueprints this year or have been a part in the past - how are you making change in your community???

The Inside Detroit tour today reminded me that one can be a leader on so many different levels within their community. After visiting the Heidelburg Project, one realizes that she/he doesn't even require cash to foster a vision; all one needs is creativity. When I think of all the little things that can add up, I can't help but think of the words, "act locally, think globally". Each action we take, no matter how small, makes a difference.
